Description

Done for "Head Drawing" class, this is a variation on Painture a l'essence, except I used acrylics and water instead of oils and turpentine. It's supposed to be a painting method that looks like pastels, but is easier to take care of and frame (and is less toxic). The only acid-free cardboard I could find was the inside of a Wilton cake box, and even then I'm just guessing.

As someone who hates both paint and pastels (except pastel pencils), I have to admit I liked this method better than both of them. It dries almost instantly, so there's no waiting, and you can get much better technical control than with pastels. I'd like it better if I had been allowed to mix the pigments before removing the medium.

But it's still paint, and you really can't fix your mistakes (they show through). This was my second try, and I'm unhappy with the placement of the right eye and the left jaw.

But I like the effect so I thought I'd post it. ^^

Hey MariaArnt,
I remember drawing this one myself from the Academy. This was also one of my favorites. I'm glad to find your new site. I still haven't gotten brave enough to put anything on here for the critics... in truth, I have dozens of 'unfinished' work, kind of like DaVinci... :)

Btw, I am sorry I missed the art giveaway, I would love to have been a part of it. The only kirians I've heard of was an edgy girl or an animae character, though. I'll do more homework.
